A buyer can find out about your service, compare the different options, and reach a conclusion all without visiting your website. This presents a difficult reporting issue for marketing teams in that some of the work which affects a purchase takes place before there is a visit to measure.

To carry out zero-click search in the B2B sector it is necessary to take a more comprehensive approach to demand generation. You must answer the questions that are important when a purchase decision is being made, supply buyers with evidence that they can make use of, and ensure that it is easy for them to get in touch with you when they are ready. Having done that, you then have to go beyond simply looking at traffic and assess what in fact happened.

What does zero-click search mean for B2B?

A zero-click search doesn’t require the user to click on a result in order to go to an external site; rather, they may have obtained the answer and then continue with their search or else abandon the task completely. On its own, the lack of a click says nothing about their level of interest.

The Pew Research Center’s study of 900 U.S. adults found that traditional-result clicks occurred on 8% of Google visits when an AI summary was provided, compared to 15% of the visits when no AI summary was given. The study looked at browsing activity in March 2025 and then collected the search results. It should be noted that this was not a B2B study and the findings do not prove that the AI alone was responsible for the difference.

For your business, what you need to consider is whether useful exposure results in recognition and consideration. An AI answer might cite your page without making your company memorable. Count a citation as visibility, then investigate its commercial value.

Build content around the decisions buyers face

Imagine an operations manager considering outsourced marketplace support. An explanation of missed order handoffs could help them recognize a problem. Later, a supplier checklist might shape the questions they bring to a sales call.

The first piece helps create demand. The second supports evaluation. A contact offer provides a way to capture that interest.

Ask sales which questions repeatedly delay decisions. For the marketplace-support example, those might be:

Which responsibilities should remain with the internal team?

How will an external provider receive access and escalate problems?

What coverage is included, and where does the scope end?

What service commitments or costs should figure in the proposal?

Before proceeding, select just one service along with a few questions; even if both the operations manager and the finance director are evaluating the same supplier, they may still require different explanations.

Give buyers something they can check

“Excellent support” says very little. It must be stated who owns each ticket, the reason for any escalation should be given, and it should be explained how issues which are not resolved are to be reported. Also publish commitments that your delivery team are able to keep.

Case studies which have been approved and processes which have been documented can be used to back up those explanations. When you publish research, make sure to include its sample, the dates, the method, and the limitations. It is important that hypothetical examples be clear enough to be identified as such.

A useful answer should be placed at the start, with the additional information needed to evaluate it coming afterwards. Good writing aids readers, even though it does not ensure that an AI system will quote you.

Keep the website ready for discovery

The fundamental SEO requirements remain part of Google’s advice on generative AI Search. In order to be indexed and to qualify for a search snippet, a page must meet these criteria, and the site had to be included in the Search generative AI features via Search Console. Yet meeting those conditions does not guarantee that the page will appear.

Have the SEO team look at the access settings, indexing settings, the canonical URLs, the internal links, and verify that important information is available in readable text format. Google doesn’t require any special AI schema or an llms.txt file in order to have these features.

The terms answer engine optimization (AEO) and generative engine optimization (GEO) refer to closely related activities concerned with visibility. These do not replace solid SEO though, and it would be unwise to think that Google’s needs are exactly the same for all the AI assistants.

Share complete ideas where buyers already research

Find out from customers which industry publications, communities, and professional networks they make use of and select a number of those relevant ones where your team can regularly contribute.

When posting on LinkedIn to explain an evaluation error, the post itself should explain the mistake. A brief expert video should provide the answer to the question it raises, and more detailed evidence should be made available for those who wish to investigate further.

The type of marketing I am talking about here is that known as broader zero-click marketing, not zero-click search, because it gives buyers with useful information without them having to go to a website.

Make sure that the company descriptions and claims are the same on all channels, increase your exposure by actively taking part in the different communities, show your valuable expertise and update any information that is no longer accurate when there are changes to your services; just repeating a claim on a number of websites does not make it credible.

Make the next conversation easy

Suggest a following action that is appropriate for the task; for example, someone looking at different delivery models might wish to talk about the scope, while a technical evaluator might require a walkthrough of the implementation.

If a person clicks on an ad which uses LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms, the form is automatically filled in with the user’s profile details and the buyer then has to click on it and submit it if a query is to be made without having to visit a website.

Assign someone to handle the response to the offer and to input it into your CRM. Decide on the criteria for qualifying leads before assessing the campaign according to the volume of leads. In the meantime, make sure that your website remains useful to buyers who come back later via branded search, providing clear information about your services and evidence that they can share within their organization.

How do you measure demand beyond clicks?

Keep monitoring traffic and conversions. Include a recurring check of the questions you want to be known for, noting the platform, the date, the region, the source links, the brand mentions, and the accuracy of each response. The mention rate obtained from that sample serves as a diagnostic figure and not as your proportion of the entire market.

Google’s generative AI performance report shows impressions for AI Overviews and AI Mode, with dimensions including page, country, device, and date. Properties with insufficient impressions may not see it. The impressions referred to here are those of links displayed in the Google features that are supported; they do not include every mention of the AI brand or allow for assignment of revenue attribution.

As sales can provide a certain kind of context whereas dashboards cannot, it is necessary to find out from prospects where they first became aware of your company and what prompted them to get in touch with you; you must record their exact words and assign them to a consistent CRM category.

Carefully consider the answers since people often forget the earlier interactions they’ve had, branded searches can come about as a result of other campaigns, and the direct traffic indicated in Google Analytics 4 doesn’t prove that AI has had an effect. When assessing the opportunities which have been qualified and the resulting revenue, combine these indications with them making sure that any given deal is not counted more than once as new pipeline activity. Whenever possible, compare the pilot with a similar group which has not received the treatment and keep a record of any other changes made to the campaign.

Start with a 90-day pilot

In the first month the marketing team selects one audience and one service, the sales team provides the recurring objections, and the SEO manager looks at discoverability, as it is necessary to establish a baseline before going live.

In the second month publish a major resource together with some supporting material, have it reviewed by a subject-matter expert, distribute a number of useful adaptations, and test a relevant contact offer.

In the third month review the same questions and examine the sales conversations. Expand the features that appeal to suitable buyers; either revise or suspend those activities which attract attention but do not lead to relevant engagement. It may be that revenue will take longer than it did during the pilot phase, particularly if the sales cycle is long.

How Alacrity can help

Alacrity E-Commerce Solutions offers SEO and digital marketing services, such as those involving PPC and social media marketing, as well as capabilities in the area of content and website design.

Bring one priority service and the questions your sales team hears most often. Discuss which content, technical improvements, and distribution work would support a focused pilot, with reporting tied to qualified inquiries.

Conclusion

In the business-to-business area, with zero-click search, customers will be able to find out about your expertise. You should give them something useful while they do their searches and as they introduce an interesting opener. When considering the effort you should consider both the quality of the conversations and the potential stemming from them, and should be explicit about the limits you give for you attribution.

FAQ‘s

Is B2B SEO still worth investing in?

Yes. Discoverable pages support research and deeper evaluation. Review relevant visits and conversions alongside off-site visibility rather than abandoning traffic measurement.

Can a website be visited without obtaining leads?

Inquiries can be obtained through ordinary means, such as sending direct messages, making telephone calls, or depending on referrals—however, it is the qualification process that determines whether a inquiry results in a sales opportunity.

How can AI visibility be connected to pipeline?

Combine repeated visibility checks with buyer feedback and CRM results since these indicators can be used to assess influence, although they seldom demonstrate the full causal pathway.

Should all content be ungated?

Make sure that the main points are clear and easy to understand; if requesting more details would clearly be advantageous in allowing for personalization or in enabling customised follow-up, then ask the customer for them and tell them the benefit they will get.

How quickly should results appear?

There is no such thing as a universal timeline; a pilot programme of 90 days will allow you to test the way in which things are carried out and the early indications; the commercial results should be evaluated in relation to your real sales cycle.

A shopper is looking for a desk which costs under $300, having a solid wood top and enough space to work in a small apartment; our store carries one of these desks. However, the listing for it is marked ‘Premium Work Desk’ and gives no measurements.

Because that information is not available, the customer has fewer things on which to base a comparison. Moreover, the shopping systems are left with less evidence showing that the desk meets the request.

Improving and maintaining the product information that is sent to online shopping platforms involves, in the case of AI shopping, the use of accurate identities, giving useful specifications and providing details that correspond with what customers actually are able to buy.

What should you fix first in your product feed?

Start with errors that might lead someone to the wrong product or to an offer they can’t afford, in the case where the price is incorrect, delaying the creation of a more descriptive title.

For a first audit, check:

Each record shows the correct item, variant, bundle or multipack.

The prices and stock status correspond to those of the product chosen on the website.

For the destination, the category and the country, the required fields are included.

The link for the product and the image refer to the variant that was submitted.

The specification for Google’s product data sets out the attributes that are required. Since other destinations might accept different attributes, a Google export that works should not be regarded as a universal feed.

Store the approved facts in a single catalog record and adapt them to fit the format of each channel; otherwise, a correction made in one export will cause both the website and another shopping channel to continue displaying the outdated information.

Can the platform identify the exact product?

Records that look similar require close examination; for example, one item, a replacement part and a pack of two, may have a lot of their description in common yet refer to different purchases.

When a GTIN has been assigned by the manufacturer use that one; in some cases no GTIN is assigned, and in such instances you should follow the destination’s identifier rules rather than making an assumption. Google also treats the individual item ID as being different from the item group ID which links the variants.

When carrying out the audit, open the links that have been submitted. A blue medium shirt should then appear with the option available and accurately displayed. Compare the image and price of the shirt with those in the feed record. If the connection is not clear, ask the catalog owner to sort it out before rewriting the description.

Which details help answer a buying question?

In the case of the desk, the relevant facts are its dimensions, the material it is made from and its price. The statement ‘perfect for modern living’ doesn’t really show whether the desk will fit next to a bed.

If the specifications are checked, an example of a title could be: “Brand Model Writing Desk, with a Solid Oak Top, 42-Inch Width, and a Black Frame.”

The details will vary depending on the category; furniture buyers will need the assembled measurements, and a person who is buying an electronic accessory will need documentation showing the compatibility, since this cannot safely be deduced from the connector alone. A USB-C connection does not mean that all the functions of the device are supported.

Before adding a claim it is necessary to check the supplier’s documentation; if the answer is not available then a question should be left for the product owner. Although AI can assist in drafting the copy from the approved information a plausible answer is not verified until it has been checked by someone.

Where does conversational product information belong?

Some questions need an explanation that would make a title unwieldy. Assembly requirements or package contents may belong in product copy or a supported question-and-answer field.

Google’s optional question and answer attribute is intended primarily for conversational experiences such as AI Mode. It has specific limits: answers should concern the product, exclude time-sensitive prices and dates, and avoid repeating information already submitted in other attributes. Google also says not to submit this attribute alongside its document link attribute.

Ask customer support which questions keep coming up. Merchandising can verify the answers, then the channel owner should confirm that the connector supports the field and sends it in the required format. Keep a reference to the supporting documentation so the next editor can check the answer too.

Does the live page tell the same story?

Even if the feed is corrected the page may still be out of date. When checking the specifications, the chosen variant and the structured data, remember to also look at the image that the customers see first.

Google suggests that both product structured data and Merchant Center feeds should be provided in order to increase the range of eligibility for its shopping features and to enable it to understand and verify the information; separate implementation checks are required for each.

Make sure that the key specifications are easy to read on the page, and when carrying out technical reviews that focus on Google, use the Rich Results Test and URL Inspection to examine any relevant markup and indexing issues.

Individual offers also require attention since the information should be checked to make sure it is up to date, that delivery is covered and that the terms of purchase are appropriate for the target market. A business buyer should be able to tell from the amount shown whether it buys one unit, a case or a sample. The minimum-order requirements or conditions which are based on a postcode should remain in place and not be changed into general promises.

How do you keep prices and inventory reliable?

Decide who investigates a failed update before the next promotion goes live. Otherwise, a feed may continue sending yesterday’s price while the storefront has already changed.

Google’s guidance on current product data recommends coordinating submissions with website updates. Automatic item updates can help with some mismatches, but they do not replace accurate, current submissions.

Set the update schedule around stock movements and price changes. After a change, confirm that the destination processed the intended values, then check the customer’s selected offer through checkout. Producing an export file is only part of that check.

If the same promotion causes mismatches repeatedly, investigate the source mapping and timing. Another manual correction may clear today’s error without resolving why it happened.

How should you measure the results?

Select a pilot category that includes important products and with a few well-known exceptions. Before carrying out any changes, note the missing fields, the rejected items and the offer mismatches. Assign a responsible person to each issue and establish a clear check for acceptance.

After the release has occurred, compare the relevant figures with the time it took to resolve the failed updates and examine the traffic and sales separately, observing any changes in advertising, promotions, and stock that may have affected the results.

Manual checks involving AI shopping can help in identifying incorrect product information. When testing realistic buying questions, it is important to save the prompt, the date, the market and the response. Simply one instance does not show that the visibility will be lasting or prove that the sales were caused by the feed changes. Even accurate data cannot ensure that the recommendations are valid.

How Alacrity can support the work

Alacrity E-Commerce Solutions offers ecommerce development, website design, digital marketing and SEO; these services apply whenever changes to the catalog also involve work on the storefront templates and search presentation.

Before you begin, you Before you start, you must clarify the scope of the implementation by deciding which catalog records are to be looked at, by determining who is responsible for mapping the fields, and by agreeing on the method that the team will adopt for keeping the records up to date after they have been handed over. The product specifications, prices and claims will still have to be approved by the brand.

Make the first category reliable before expanding

Begin with a category your team can review thoroughly. Correct its records, test the published offers and assign responsibility for future updates. That gives you a repeatable process for the rest of the catalog. Discuss your catalog priorities with Alacrity to assess where development and marketing support could fit.

FAQ‘s

Does optimising the product feed ensure that AI recommendations are produced?

By no means does it make product information clearer and help with eligibility, since submitting it and ensuring the data is accurate does not guarantee that placement or recommendations will result.

Does it have to be the case that each product has a GTIN?

If a GTIN has been assigned by the manufacturer then use it; otherwise, follow the identifier rules which apply to the destination. Do not produce a number to fill the field.

Can artificial intelligence compose product titles and answers?

AI can produce content using approved facts, but a person must check the specifications and claims, as well as make sure that the channel’s requirements regarding content generated by AI have been met.

How frequently should product feeds be updated?

The matches need updating in response to any changes in price, inventory or offer, and the destination’s requirements have to be met. When stock is changing quickly, more frequent updates will be necessary than is the case when the stock level is stable. Nevertheless, the number of failed submissions should still be kept under observation even if this number is small.

Should the feed and product page contain identical wording?

The words used might differ since the formats of the channels are different, but the basic facts must be identical, covering the variant, the specifications, the price and availability as well. The structured data should also correspond to that on the visible page.

Merchant Center AI insights allow brands to look at how their products are presented in conversational shopping experiences. For an e-commerce team the key question is what this degree of visibility shows with regard to areas that could use improvement and whether or not making those improvements results in a measurable outcome.

Picture a customer who is looking for a carry-on bag with replaceable wheels. You offer them such a bag, but the information about how to repair it is given in a PDF and the product page only states “durable construction”. This is a point that should be examined. The report can be used to detect interests that are relevant to the shopper; however, your team still have to determine what the product provides and how clearly that information is given.

What does AI performance insights cover?

Google’s AI performance insights announcement describes visibility across shopping stages, product themes, specifications and shopper intent. It names AI Mode, AI Overviews and the Gemini app.

There is a scope detail to watch. The current operating help explicitly describes AI Mode and AI Overviews, so confirm Gemini coverage in your account before including it in a client report. These sources use different wording. Neither supports treating the report as a measure of visibility across every AI shopping service.

Where can brands find the report?

Based on Google’s current report guidance, the route is Analytics then Products then AI performance, and availability includes English-language queries for accounts in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the United States.

The data includes organic traffic, omits advertisements and is looked at according to individual category, country and time period. Make a note of the selections you have made before comparing the results, since a change in the scope of the reporting may appear to be a change in performance.

How should you read share of voice?

The share of voice is obtained by dividing your AI impressions by the total number of impressions that your brand and its defined competitors have received; frequency reflects the level of demand and the number of times the products have appeared shows how many products have been displayed.

In order to calculate the percentage, certain background information is required: for example, if there are 200 impressions out of 1,000, the brand’s share is 20 per cent; in another instance, 180 out of 600 gives a share of 30 per cent. The share has increased even though the number of impressions the brand has received has fallen. The figures mentioned here are only given as an example of the mathematical workings and are not based on actual account results nor do they suggest that those original figures are available in the interface.

Google also documents several reporting limits:

Zero share can reflect insufficient impressions; a dash indicates no impression data.

With no defined competitors, share can display 100%.

Zero products showing means none are showing.

Competitors cannot be changed manually, and competitor-set changes can lift both averages.

Data updates daily with a few days’ delay.

Avoid averaging category percentages when their denominators and weighting are unknown. Showing the categories separately makes the result easier to defend.

Turn an insight into a product-data task

Google breaks down the shopping process into three stages: discovery, evaluation, and purchase. For a catalog team, this involves considering the question that a shopper has after all the available information has been presented.

Take your carry-on bag; before including ‘replaceable wheels’ in its description, check which variants are eligible, whether replacement parts are available in the target market and where the approved repair information can be found. Search demand does not set a product specification.

An effective work item should include the customer’s question, the supporting evidence, the affected SKUs, the destination field and the owner. It should also keep a record of when the change was put into action; otherwise, the following review will consist of a discussion based on what people remember having changed.

After an update, you should check the source integration. If a nightly sync restores the old description then editing the visible listing has not fixed the real problem. Eligibility issues should also be looked at before making improvements to the copy since Google’s free-listing guidance makes it clear that being given permission to take part does not guarantee that it will be displayed.

Build a baseline before changing the catalog

Select one product group that has commercial value and whose stock is stable together with verifiable specifications. Record the dates on which the report is to be prepared, the filters that have been chosen and the product IDs, as well as the current feed and product page information. Make a note of any promotions, price changes or tracking changes that could have an effect on the comparison.

It makes sense to start with equal periods; four weeks might be appropriate for an initial review, but products with low volume or which are seasonal may need a longer period. This kind of timing is a decision within your control and not something required by Google.

It is necessary to distinguish between the work that has been done and the performance that is seen. The fact that the dimensions have been adjusted on 18 out of the 20 products that were selected shows that the task has been carried out; it does not show that these products have gained visibility. Where it is appropriate, it should be kept alongside a comparable group which has not been altered, although it must be admitted that differences between products and varying demand mean that the comparison cannot prove everything.

How do you connect visibility with sales?

Leave the visibility and commercial measurement next to one another with their definitions left unchanged. The general product reporting in the Merchant Centre includes impressions, clicks, the click-through rate and purchases. The overall organic product figure should not be re-labelled as a result specific to AI.

The view of the separate website that can be accessed via generative AI reporting in Search Console provides information regarding URL impressions, pages, countries and dates; Google’s announcement mentioned a global rollout which occurred on 31 August 2026. The figures should not be added to the Merchant Center totals as though they were indicating separate audiences.

As far as purchases are concerned, you need to make sure that the ecommerce events recorded by your Google Analytics 4 correctly identify the relevant products and then look at the overlapping periods without assuming that a visibility change at the category level can be linked to individual orders.

The landing page experience needs to be looked at if visibility is improving but sales remain the same, since the chosen variant might be unavailable, the delivery information could be unclear, or the page might not answer an important compatibility question. If revenue goes up as a result of a discount campaign, that reason should also be kept. A useful report should offer other possible explanations rather than attributing every change to the most recent feed edit.

Where Alacrity can help

Alacrity E-Commerce Solutions offers ecommerce development, digital marketing and SEO, website design, integrations and data intelligence; these are the suitable capabilities to apply in any situation in which product information has to be handled throughout the catalog, website and measurement setup.

In order to remain focused, a brief should begin by examining one priority category and the existing information, decide on the access that is required, state who is responsible for the product facts, and specify what evidence will be used to assess the work before expanding the scope.

Conclusion

Merchant Center AI insights are most useful when a finding results in a specific and verifiable change. Begin by establishing the baseline, then address the information gap which has been supported and leave sufficient time for reviewing the evidence. The following step could be to carry on with the investigation by looking at another constraint or it might just be to continue observing. Even if the result is inconclusive it should still be recorded accurately.

FAQ‘s

Does the report replace ecommerce analytics?

It is still necessary to measure visits, shopping interactions and purchases. The reports should be drawn up so as to deal with the questions that their data raises, and any attribution gaps should be clearly stated.

What if the report is unavailable in an account?

Check the current account guidance and record the limitation. Product accuracy audits and existing performance reports can still guide work. A few manual AI searches cannot substitute for an account-wide baseline.

Which products should be reviewed first?

A stable stock of well-defined products, together with a responsible data owner, makes a good starting point. Select products that have commercial importance so that the investigation serves a practical business purpose.

How long should brands wait before judging changes?

It all varies according to the amount of data, the seasonal factors and all the other changes that take place over the period in question. Once a date for review has been fixed, the observation period should be lengthened if the evidence is too weak to draw any conclusions from it.

Does higher visibility prove that AI generated more sales?

No. Review purchase data, tracking quality and other possible explanations. Describe an association unless stronger evidence supports a causal claim.

If you want your ecommerce store to be prepared for AI shopping, then you need to make sure that your product information is accurate, keep your merchant feeds current, and check the buying journey that customers actually go through. In order for an assistant to be able to understand which product matches a shopper’s request, whether the correct variant is available and how the purchase can be carried out.

The readiness of AI with regard to shopping includes both the stage of discovery and that of carrying out transactions; the requirements in these two areas are not the same, since being featured in a recommendation does not automatically allow for checkout within an AI platform.

The guidance regarding the platform recommends a practical method: first fix your catalog and storefront before looking at the integrations available in your market.

How do ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot shopping routes differ?

Each platform has its own product-data connections and purchasing experience. Check your existing ecommerce platform’s support before commissioning a custom integration.

ChatGPT: prepare for discovery and merchant checkout

OpenAI’s product-discovery guidance explains that merchants share feeds and promotions through the Agentic Commerce Protocol, or ACP. It also describes a focus on discovery, with merchants using their own checkout experiences.

Shopify product data is already connected through Shopify Catalog. For that route, merchants do not need a separate ChatGPT integration. They still need accurate catalog information and should review Shopify’s current channel controls.

Other merchants can assess direct-feed access. OpenAI’s developer guidance limits onboarding to approved partners, so submitting an application does not establish acceptance or guarantee recommendations.

Gemini: start with Merchant Center

For Shopify’s Google AI Mode and Gemini channel, product discovery is powered by Google Merchant Center. Keep product and shipping synchronization active and resolve listing issues.

Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol integration guidance describes a separate early-access checkout route for selected merchants, scoped to products sold within the United States.

Shopify’s direct-checkout documentation also requires a US-based store selling to US customers, alongside other conditions. India-based businesses can prepare their product information now, but must check eligibility before planning in-chat checkout.

Copilot: distinguish feeds from checkout

Microsoft says Merchant Center feeds help inform organic Copilot results, while membership is not required for Copilot Checkout. Its Copilot Checkout announcement describes a US rollout through commerce and payment partners.

Review current channel availability and settings. The merchant remains responsible for the transaction and customer relationship in Microsoft’s described model, including fulfillment and customer support.

Which product details should you audit first?

Start by choosing a small number of products that have reliable stock and clearly defined specifications. For each purchasable variant, check:

• Identifiers for stable products and variants.

• Ensure that the titles, brand details, and GTINs are included where applicable.

• The current prices, currencies, sale dates, and availability.

• Make sure that the right landing pages and images are available for the option selected.

• Its size, the materials it’s made from, the fact that it’s compatible and the accessories included with it.

• Information on shipping and clear terms for returning.

In order to answer any important questions, it is necessary to state the dimensions, the minimum cabinet width, the type of installation, the finish, and the fittings included, referring to verified product information.

It is important that the differences between the various options remain unchanged; for example, if a particular finish has sold out, then both its feed and its buying page should display this situation rather than copying the availability from another variant.

Someone should be assigned the task of reconciling the catalog source with the storefront and the feeds. Failed updates should be monitored and the times at which the records are refreshed should be set in line with platform requirements and any changes to the inventory.

Can search engines and assistants access your products?

Check representative product URLs for successful responses, indexability, correct canonical URLs, sitemap inclusion, and useful internal links. Inspect whether security challenges or region selectors prevent access to important text and images.

Review robots.txt alongside hosting and firewall rules. OpenAI has arranged for OAI-SearchBot to be used for search purposes separately from GPTBot, which is used for model training, the two sets of controls being independent. Search access does not require allowing training access.

For Google Search, check the Search generative AI setting in Search Console, including inherited settings. This control is separate from training preferences and participation in Merchant Center.

Access supports discovery, but does not guarantee indexing or recommendations. Continue maintaining your store’s existing SEO foundations.

How should product pages answer buying questions?

Make sure buyers can easily find and understand the details about the product. Clearly state who the product is for what the product works with. What comes in the box. Include any needs for installation setting up or taking care of the product.

Replace instructions like “check compatibility” with model numbers or measurements that are allowed for the product. Statements about who the product is good, for and how safe the product is should be based on information provided by the manufacturer.

Use Product and Offer structured data and assess ProductGroup markup for related product variants. Keep markup consistent with the product page and merchant feed. Include accurate review information.

Google’s current guidance says no special AI schema is required for its Search features and llms.txt does not improve Google Search visibility. I believe useful product information deserves priority over supposed shortcuts.

What should you test before enabling agent checkout?

Make sure the market and the product are eligible before you start working on checkout development. Ask your provider which features are available now and which ones need work.

Shopify’s guidance about Google direct‑checkout says some product types are not supported, like subscriptions, bundles, customizable products and products for B2B. Some checkout blocks might not be available either.

Test the product variant, address restrictions, shipping costs, taxes, discounts and changes in stock. Check what happens with failed payments, repeated requests order delivery to your fulfillment system. How refunds are handled.

For custom agent actions, keep credentials, limit permissions, make sure you have the authorization, and check inventory and price again before you confirm an order. Also look at category policies; clean data cannot beat a platform rule.

How can you measure progress?

Track accepted feed records, data errors, failed updates and checkout‑test results separately from revenue. These show whether your preparation is working.

Then monitor referrals, channel orders, conversion rates, cancellations and returns. Reconcile channel sales with browser analytics because direct checkout may not create a storefront session.

Google’s Search Console generative AI report measures impressions in supported Search features more than Gemini‑app sales. Bing’s AI citation insights measure visibility; Citation Share is not traffic share or a ranking score.

Use shopping prompts to diagnose product information. Record the platform, market and date. Avoid treating a recommendation as proof of commercial impact.

How can Alacrity support your store?

Alacrity E-Commerce Solutions offers ecommerce development, website design, digital marketing and SEO and integration options. These are important for making your store better and making product details clearer.

Get in touch with Alacrity to talk about a scoped readiness project that looks at catalog gaps, website accessibility, target markets and available channel connections. Make sure to check the requirements for ACP or UCP implementation on your own.

What should you do next?

Start with a small catalog pilot by setting up the baseline, fixing the product data, verifying the channel connections, and testing the buying process that is supported. Assign each task a responsible person and keep an eye on the changes before proceeding with expansion. The readiness of AI for shopping is a continuous form of maintenance; you should first create reliable product information and operations and then use the results obtained from measurement to determine which integration warrants investment.

FAQ‘s

Can an India-based store prepare now?

Yes. Improve product data, accessible pages, feeds, and measurement. Verify seller-location and customer-market requirements separately before planning direct checkout.

Is the product schema sufficient?

Far from it, this is only one aspect of product communication. The accuracy of the feeds, the ease of access to the pages and the policies, as well as platform eligibility, are all important; the use of markup does not ensure placement.

Must Shopify merchants have their own ChatGPT feed?

OpenAI has stated that integration with Shopify data is already available through Shopify Catalog; you should check the settings for the channel and your eligibility, as well as ensure that the basic product information is kept up to date.

Do I have to have an MCP server or a custom agent?

You aren’t obliged to begin with one, and custom development should be considered if a supported workflow together with a maintenance plan makes it worthwhile.

What is the duration of the preparation?

This depends on the quality of the catalogue and the degree of integration involved. Although a 30-day pilot can arrange the work, approval, indexing, and the granting of rollout access still occur in accordance with the platform’s procedures.

To measure AI search visibility you’ll need two different sets of records: those showing the answers in which your company or website appeared, and the analytics which show what took place when someone arrived at your site. The rule should be applied each time a brand is referred to or a citation is made, and it must be applied on every visit and in every conversion.

A screenshot can confirm an appearance. A monthly report needs more context. Which questions produced it? Was the description right? An incorrect service detail, for example, needs checking before that appearance is treated as useful exposure. For the commercial result, you will need the platform reports and customer records too.

What should you count?

A brand mention names your company or product. A citation indicates which material is providing the answer; the assistant may mention your guide when explaining it without suggesting that you should be hired.

The website visits which come from AI can be recognised, the conversions covering both the enquiries that were received and the purchases that were made. Keep them separate from appearances in answers. Adding mentions, citations and sessions produces a total with no consistent unit, and some observations overlap.

Build a baseline you can repeat

Choose questions from sales calls, support enquiries, site search and keyword research. For an agency, one might be: “What should a US retailer ask an outsourced marketplace management partner?” That is an illustrative prompt, not evidence of search volume.

Twenty or thirty questions is a suggested workload for the first round. It will leave plenty of buying questions untested. When the question already contains your company name, getting it back in the answer tells you little about discovery. Record those questions separately. Group the new questions separately so that they won’t have an effect on the main comparison.

Whoever runs the checks in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Microsoft Copilot should leave a record of:

Exact prompt, platform and date.

Language, target market and available model or search-mode details.

New conversation or follow-up question.

The saved response and cited URLs.

In the following round, put the same key questions to people in new conversations. Comparison is easier if you have a fixed schedule, and even if the circumstances are the same you will be able to notice the differences in the way the questions are answered when you ask them twice.

A timeout belongs in the missing-data log. An answer that completed without mentioning you belongs in the results. Disclose changes in coverage before comparing percentages.

Calculate mention and citation rates

A response should count once for each valid response, even if the brand name appears more than once within it. Regarding citations from your own site, you need to verify that the response includes a link to your domain which is qualified; only one such qualified link is necessary to count the response, further links will not increase that count.

Mention rate = responses naming your brand ÷ all valid responses in the defined set × 100.

Owned-site citation rate = responses citing your domain ÷ all valid responses in that set × 100.

With 25 prompts run twice on one platform, there would be 50 responses to examine if every run completed. Fifteen mentions out of those 50 would put your mention rate at 30%. If ten responses linked to your domain, the citation rate would be 20%. The numbers here are only an example. This calculation does not tell you how many buyers saw an answer.

If the assistant provides a link to an article on your business which has been published by a third party, you must give that link its own entry instead of considering it as a citation from your own website. Moreover, when working out a rate based solely on the answers which include sources, you should label the denominator being used and retain the measure which is based on all the responses.

For competitor share of voice, divide your appearances by all brand appearances in a fixed competitor set, counting each brand once per response. This is sample share of voice, not market share.

What do Google and Bing report?

Google Search Console

Google’s Search Generative AI reports show impressions within AI features in Search and Discover. Google says the rollout reached all websites worldwide by August 31, 2026. Pages, countries and dates are available, with device reporting for Search.

These impressions remain included in overall performance reporting. Adding the AI figures to that total would double count them. Impressions alone also cannot supply an AI click-through rate.

Bing Webmaster Tools

The report, which can be accessed via AI Performance in Bing Webmaster Tools, displays the number of citations that your pages have acquired over time and includes information regarding Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated Bing summaries, and a number of partner integrations; it also provides examples of grounding queries, which are the phrases used to retrieve the content.

Those phrases need not match a customer’s original question. Citation counts do not establish placement within an answer. Report them separately from your sampled citation rate because coverage and denominators differ.

Find identifiable AI visits in GA4

Google’s channel definitions include an AI Assistant channel for recognized sources such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode fall under Organic Search. The AI Assistant total therefore covers only part of AI discovery.

Review session source/medium with landing pages, sessions and engaged sessions. Compare equivalent periods and similar visitor intent. Custom source rules need a written record too, with a review when the sources change.

Referral data will likewise be missing and you could end up seeing a higher number of direct visits or branded searches, even though this doesn’t explain how those visitors came to find out about your company, so don’t assign them to AI for that reason. Before looking at the poor results, check the landing page tracking as well as the form or purchase events and make sure that consent preferences are respected.

Connect visits to business outcomes

A B2B team will usually want to know whether an enquiry was worth passing to sales. A newsletter signup answers a different question. Check what the key event actually records. A button click can happen without a successful submission, and spam or duplicate records need removing.

Report conversions from identifiable AI-source sessions separately from conversions where the recorded AI visit happened earlier. Customer-reported discovery adds another source of evidence. These groups can overlap, so deduplicate leads or transactions before combining them.

The reporting model affects credit when you use event-scoped dimensions. Changing it leaves session-scoped dimensions unaffected, as Google’s attribution guidance explains. Record the scope, model and lookback window used.

For B2B sales, retain the agreed source in your CRM and allow comparable time for leads to qualify and close. In that case you’re comparing the enquiries from last week with those leads which had three months to turn into sales.

When working out the session conversion rate, divide the number of sessions in which the action you have selected took place by the number of eligible source sessions and then multiply the result by 100; a session should only be counted once, although when you are calculating the number of leads per session, leads from the same session will have an effect on the figure.

Make the monthly report useful

Show sampled mention and citation rates, accuracy checks, Google AI impressions and Bing citations. Then add identifiable sessions, relevant landing pages and qualified business outcomes. Include completed checks, missing observations and method changes.

Put counts beside percentages. In a sample of 20 sessions, a change from two converting sessions to three takes the rate from 10% to 15%. That’s only one additional converting session. Match reporting dates and timezones, noting when content or tracking changed.

In month one, agree what to measure and gather the baseline while checking that tracking works. Review cited pages and lead quality before choosing changes to test. An old page being cited may need updating. If visits produce no enquiries, the landing page is one place to investigate. These are investigation priorities, with no promise of growth within 30 days.

How can Alacrity help?

At Alacrity E-Commerce Solutions provide services in the areas of SEO and digital marketing together with website design and e-commerce development. You need to contact the team in order to discuss the pages that require checking, and while work is underway you must decide on the results you want to be reported as well as decide whether or not analytics or CRM integration is necessary.

Make the report easy to check

Even a colleague who has not collected the data should still be able to understand the meaning of each figure and must be able to carry out the necessary calculations themselves. A note should each time a method is changed so that the next comparison can be properly checked.

FAQ‘s

Can you track brand mentions without clicks?

Repeated answer checks capture mentions even when nobody visits your website. They describe the monitored responses, rather than total audience exposure.

Does GA4 capture all AI search traffic?

Its AI Assistant channel covers recognized assistant sources. AI Overviews and AI Mode sit within Organic Search; missing referral information can leave other visits unidentified.

Does a citation mean a recommendation?

Read the answer around the link. An assistant might use your page to explain a topic and say nothing about choosing your business.

How often should checks run?

Look at the situation week by week and then examine the business results on a monthly basis. Even if you change the schedule to match your own working habits, you’ll still have to make a number of observations before you can assess the performance.

Can AI visibility be linked to revenue?

Where tracking and customer records support the connection, sales can be attributed under your chosen method. That does not prove AI alone caused the purchase.

A shopper looking for a kitchen sink may want to know whether it fits a particular cabinet, which accessories come with it and how it should be installed. A product page that says “premium quality for modern kitchens” leaves most of that unanswered.

It should be noted by brands that are using Google AI Mode and who want to increase their visibility on Gemini that such details are not available. Giving Google accurate product information provides it with more useful data and allows customers to decide for themselves whether the item is suitable; it doesn’t in any way guarantee that a recommendation will be made.

It typically begins in the catalog and on the website, via the individuals responsible for it.

What changes when shoppers ask longer questions?

AI Mode is included in Google Search, while shopping in the Gemini app represents a different experience and the features available may vary by market. By combining product information from its Shopping Graph with the capabilities of Gemini, Google is able to assist people with their shopping questions.

A customer can describe a need, compare options and add conditions as the conversation continues. “Small desk” could be described as “a desk under $200 which has storage and that fits next to a bedroom window.”

Your listing needs enough accurate detail to explain whether the product meets those conditions. That means describing its actual dimensions and storage, rather than adding every possible search phrase to the title.

Fix the feed before expanding the content

Choose a small group of important products and compare their Merchant Center records with the live store. Look at individual variants. A correct parent title can hide a wrong image or a link that opens a different size.

Work through these checks:

The landing page opens the advertised product and variant.

Images, color, size and pack quantity describe the same item.

Price, currency and availability agree with the purchase page.

Shipping and return terms are current and easy to find.

Product identifiers are valid and belong to that item.

The requirements concerning identifiers will vary according to the category; in each instance you are required to provide the relevant manufacturer-assigned GTIN or other identifiers and must not use a barcode from a similar product.

If, after the following store sync, the correction is found to have disappeared, the source then needs to be investigated; the feed may be getting an old value from a supplier file or from another system and so someone should be assigned the job of correcting that mapping since the basic problem would still remain that each week the field had to be manually changed.

Add information that answers buying questions

Google’s supported conversational attributes include question_and_answer, document_link and related_product, along with fields for product groups and variants.

These give merchants ways to supply useful context. A manual can explain assembly. A related-product field can identify a required part. Before you add them, make sure that you check the format that your data source supports and also verify if the information is already provided elsewhere.

For product Q&A, use factual answers checked against approved documentation. Google excludes time-sensitive offer information, such as prices and dates, from question_and_answer; those details belong in their designated fields. Keyword lists do not belong in the answers either.

It’s a good idea to look to customer support to identify questions that deserve answering. The product page should clarify whether a charger is included before buyers have to get in touch with anyone who can help.

Give product pages enough detail to support a decision

Picture a fictional workstation sink; customers should be made aware of the verified dimensions, what is needed for installation, which accessories are included and how the sink should be looked after. Even if a photograph shows a cutting board, the page must clarify whether the sink comes with it or whether it has to be bought separately.

The same approach can be observed in other cases. For example, a page relating to furniture might include information about doorway clearance. Buyers of electronics might need to know about the supported connections and regional specifications. On the other hand, people who are buying clothes might need the measurements of the garments rather than just the usual size label.

You should mention both the advantages and the disadvantages, and if compatibility is dependent on a particular model or on the way the equipment is installed, then this must be stated. It is important that the specification which gives the support be available so that the team can consult it each time the supplier modifies the product.

Good photographs and actual customer feedback can also reveal the gaps in the description as well; if there is a continuous lack of clarity regarding what is included then the page should be looked at.

Can Google access and interpret the page?

Google’s guidance for generative AI search says established SEO practices remain relevant. Pages must be indexed and eligible for a Search snippet; the relevant Search Console inclusion setting also matters.

Review crawl access, internal links and the content visible on mobile. Appropriate Product and Offer structured data should agree with the actual page. Where variants are involved, inspect the selected option as well as the default one.

A theme, an SEO plugin and a pricing component may each output product information. Check for conflicting prices or availability before adding another tool. Test an unavailable variant and a sale item, too.

No special AI schema guarantees inclusion. Google also says llms.txt does not improve visibility in its Search results.

Measure visibility without confusing it with sales

The performance insights provided by the Merchant Center for AI cover conversational questions about shopping when AI Mode and AI Overviews are being used. The availability referred to applies to queries made in English in markets such as the US and India, and only organic traffic is taken into account, not traffic from paid advertisements.

Look at the definitions of the metrics. A zero share of voice may be due to a lack of impressions, and a 100% share can happen when competitor data is not available. Neither of these figures should be regarded as a full representation of market visibility. The report must not be referred to as providing full Gemini-app attribution.

You should look at the pages that receive visibility since the generative AI performance report in Search Console covers Search impression data for both AI Mode and AI Overviews, and then, separately, use store analytics to check purchases and revenue.

It is important to bear in mind when the changes came into effect because promotions, stock levels and seasonality all influence the results over that period; even though manual prompt checks can pick out incorrect descriptions, a single recommendation is merely an observation and not a stable ranking.

Where should your team begin?

Begin by focusing on one category; as the website team examine the templates, ask the catalog owner to look after the feed problems, obtain approval of the new answers from the product specialist and then check the next data update before carrying out the other work.

The way in which it is integrated with the checkout process must be planned on its own. Even if the Universal Commerce Protocol enables commerce interactions, simply improving discoverability does not mean that purchasing will take place within an AI experience. You have to look at the present market situation and check whether integration is eligible, including how orders and refunds are to be managed.

How Alacrity can help

Alacrity E-Commerce Solutions offers its services in the area of e-commerce development, digital marketing and SEO, as well as in website design and all issues concerning content; these capabilities are appropriate when a product-information problem has an effect on both the store and its content.

Before carrying out the implementation, you must discuss the particular website and the product-data review with Alacrity and, before proceeding, reach an agreement on the products in question, the technical responsibilities, and the measurement plan.

Conclusion

Make your products easier to evaluate by fixing inaccurate offers and addressing the questions that buyers have so that their inquiries can be resolved. Using Google AI Mode and Gemini Shopping, this type of work has to be carried out continuously and covers both the catalog and the website. Continue with the improvements after the first review and monitor progress by looking at the scope of each report.

FAQ‘s

Does Merchant Center guarantee AI shopping placement?

Submitting product data does not guarantee approval, display or recommendation for a particular query. Accurate data supports readiness, but Google determines what appears.

Do product pages need special AI schema?

No. Use appropriate product structured data for supported Search experiences and ensure it matches the visible page. There is no separate schema that secures AI recommendations.

What if a product has no GTIN?

Follow the identifier requirements for its category and supply valid identifiers that exist. Some products legitimately lack GTINs. Never invent one or mark existing identifiers as unavailable.

Is UCP required for product discovery?

Treat UCP checkout integration separately from general discovery readiness. Accessible pages and accurate product information remain relevant without assuming eligibility for a particular checkout feature.

How quickly should results improve?

Not always. Outcomes can be impacted by processing, indexing, demand and competition. Test the changes are functioning then compare performance over desirable durations.

The only way to build up your brand’s authority in the field of AI search is to provide people with sufficient reliable information so that they end up having a good understanding of your company and are able to assess its expertise; even though all of your website, your presence on LinkedIn, and your business profiles play a part, each of these has a different role.

The service page gives customers information about the products they can purchase, as can be seen in a case study, while an article written by an employee and uploaded to LinkedIn shows how the work is carried out, and business profiles allow buyers to check things such as your location and contact details.

The issue is keeping the records accurate as the business develops, since increasing the amount of content will not remedy a service description that is outdated or a result which no one is able to verify.

What makes a brand credible in AI search?

No single authority score is used by all AI platforms, and the main objective for a business is to make sure that relevant expertise can be found and to give readers reasons to trust it.

Google’s advice regarding how people should optimize for generative AI search places strong emphasis on creating original and useful content as well as applying standard SEO techniques. There is no need to use special AI markup or adhere to a particular writing format; these recommendations are only applicable to Google, the other platforms looking after their own systems.

Consistency helps establish which business a page describes. Evidence supports what that business claims. Repeating “industry leader” across ten profiles does little to explain why a buyer should believe it.

What should your website make easy to verify?

Begin by considering the service that a potential customer is most likely to look at—will they be able to understand what is included, who the service is suitable for, and what your team’s requirements are before work starts?

Standard service descriptions fail to answer the main questions; for instance, in the case of an organization which provides marketplace management it must be stated clearly if its services include inventory planning, listing maintenance or advertising, and customers should not have to work out for themselves the scope of the range of services.

Review the supporting information alongside it:

The current business name, website and contact details.

Relevant people and their actual responsibilities.

Case studies with a clear scope, measurement period and outcome.

Explanations of constraints, dependencies and common problems.

For a case study, retain the records behind the result and obtain permission to publish client information. The meaning of a percentage is that, when a number of changes take place, you shouldn’t credit the whole improvement to a single activity.

The technical checks matter too. Priority pages need accessible text and internal links, and accidental indexing restrictions should be investigated. Review the site’s effective Search generative AI inclusion setting in Search Console, including any setting inherited from a parent property. Google’s current guide links to the relevant controls.

In order to be accurate, structured data must describe both the webpage and the business, and it cannot be used to prove anything that is not already contained in the visible content; merely adding the information will not ensure that the page will be discovered or that recommendations will be made.

How can LinkedIn demonstrate your expertise?

A useful LinkedIn contribution often begins with a question someone asked during the work. Why was a particular approach chosen? What held up the project? What does a customer need to do before beginning?

The person responsible for that task is usually in a position to give details which a general company update does not. LinkedIn’s AI visibility guidelines state that original educational content and reliable contributors should be promoted; however, the company’s observations should not be relied upon when promising specific follower numbers or when setting quotas for AI citations.

Wherever the website has details about a migration project, the project leader might describe a difficult decision that was made as part of the project and provide a link to the full case study where applicable. The LinkedIn post should be able to be understood on its own and not merely act as a notice that a new blog has been published.

Check the description on the Company Page and the website link, as well as the current positions of the employees involved. Also look into the information that is available to visitors who do not need to sign in. Just because a full profile is available in your account doesn’t mean that all the details are accessible to the public.

A publishing schedule should provide for expert input because such input is a superior editorial starting point compared to simply filling the calendar with general advice.

Which business profiles should you maintain?

Look for organizations that align with your operating model and that enable customers to assess the business; such organizations could be an industry association, a suitable review website, or a genuine local listing.

It is by no means true that every company can obtain a Google Business Profile; on the contrary, the eligibility requirements typically mandate that people must be contacted in person within the specified hours, although there are a few exceptions. Businesses which operate entirely online are part of the category that fail to meet the criteria. It is wrong to fabricate an office address in order to get a listing.

We need to make sure that in these cases the categories, the contact details, the opening hours and the information about the location or the service area are correct since different information might be required for branches. There is no need to copy the old headquarters address into each location profile just for the sake of keeping everything consistent.

Make sure that feedback is given honestly in line with the platform’s rules and deal with any concerns that occur. It is necessary to keep in mind that a description prepared by the company and one provided by an independent customer are of a different nature. Just reproducing your own statement somewhere else does not amount to independent proof.

Connect the work and measure what changes

It is necessary to keep a common record of company facts which have been approved and of all the evidence that has been published, indicating who the owner is, what the source documents are and when the reviews took place. When a service changes or when a correction has to be made to a case-study claim, the team should be able to locate the website content and the related posts.

In the first three months, in the first month focus on sorting out the major inconsistencies and establish a baseline; in the second month enhance a priority service page and publish a major evidence piece with the help of an expert; and in the third month examine the buyer’s experience and consider the questions which are still without answers. This is a timetable for delivering the work, not a commitment as to when AI visibility will become available.

To obtain accurate measurements, having merely a screenshot showing one positive answer is not sufficient; instead you should repeat a small number of actual buyer questions and note the name of the platform, the date, the brand description and the sources cited. The questions have to be stable enough to enable the results to be compared, even if the answers differ.

Google’s Generative AI performance report provides impression data for AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google notes that insufficient impressions can mean the report is absent. It does not measure every AI platform.

Make sure that identifiable referral visits and qualified enquiries are kept apart since a mention, a citation and a lead are all different kinds of results. Ask prospects how they came to find out about you, considering all the various touchpoints, and don’t attribute every increase in branded searches to AI exposure.

How Alacrity can support the process

Alacrity E-Commerce Solutions offers services in website design, e-commerce development, digital marketing and SEO, social media marketing and the provision of content. These capabilities are appropriate in the case when website improvements and content publishing have to be coordinated.

Discuss a scope built around your priority pages, available evidence and publishing capacity. Agree on the deliverables and reporting baseline before assessing results.

Conclusion

If you want to establish your brand’s credibility in the field of AI search, then you should choose a service that you can clearly explain and for which you can offer proof. Provide this information on your website, interact with knowledgeable people on LinkedIn and make sure that any incorrect profiles are fixed. Let the questions asked by customers and the results you see determine which areas you should improve in next.

FAQ‘s

Can a small business build authority in AI search?

You should do your best to concentrate on a particular service and publish evidence that is useful and can be backed up; even though selecting a more specific topic will make the task easier to carry out, visibility will still be governed by the query and the platform.

Does posting on LinkedIn guarantee AI citations?

The fact that you publish often doesn’t mean that you’ll be cited. Even if the material you publish is relevant it doesn’t ensure that it will be found, and it therefore can’t be used as a general basis to decide on eligibility depending on the number of followers or the level of engagement.

Does a business that operates only online need a Google Business Profile?

Google does not list businesses that exist on the internet. Therefore you should set up a profile that accurately shows what your business actually does of creating a listing, for a specific location.

Is special schema required for AI search?

Google states that the special AI schema is unnecessary since accurate structured data can be used to describe your content, even though it does not ensure that the content will be indexed, cited, or recommended.

When should you expect results?

There cannot be a universal deadline that is reliable. You should set a baseline, carry out the improvements, and then look at the trends over time. The initial 90 days may help to get the work organised; they won’t, however, guarantee a change in the answers given by AI.

A shopper asks an AI assistant for advice on how to select a desk for a small home office and thinks that a useful buying guide would be able to answer that question. A minute later they ask for an oak desk at less than $300, one that is no wider than 100 centimeters and which is available for delivery to their address.

The second one requires a lot more than just a good explanation.

AI search is not the same as AI shopping since e-commerce brands have to deal with both scenarios. The content they produce must enable people to understand the various options available, and the product information must refer to items that are actually available for purchase. Although the two areas overlap, a content team cannot correct wrong stock status just by publishing another article.

What changes when AI search becomes AI shopping?

AI search assists users in finding information and in working through their questions. In the case of AI shopping, this kind of assistance is applied when selecting products and assessing offers, occasionally extending all the way to the checkout process. These activities overlap within a customer’s journey and are not necessarily part of separate platform systems.

For a brand, being cited as a source in an answer is different from having a product recommended; even a product recommendation does not indicate which merchant makes the sale.

OpenAI’s shopping guidance provided by OpenAI explains how ChatGPT takes into account user intent together with structured metadata and other content. The aspects of product selection, merchant selection, and checkout availability are all separate elements of the experience.

That distinction gives teams a better starting point than asking whether the brand is simply “visible in AI.” Visible where, and for which buying decision?

Why a useful answer can still lead to a competitor’s product

Envision a furniture company which has a helpful guide for measuring a home office; the information in this guide might be used to answer a question regarding an AI, while a desk from another brand would suit the shopper better in terms of budget or dimensions.

There might also be an issue right within the company. Even if the brand offers a 100-centimeter desk, the feed directs to the page for the 120-centimeter model. The image displayed is that of the bigger desk as well. Someone has to sort out those records before any more content is commissioned.

Identify the stage at which the journey breaks down; whenever there are gaps in the explanations, steps should be taken to improve the content. If there is conflicting product information, contact either the catalog or the development team. And in the case where customers do reach the right page but still leave, the buying experience and the offer should be checked before concluding that the issue is caused by AI discovery.

How should brands optimize for AI search?

Construct useful explanations for the decisions that customers find difficult. Support tickets and the reasons given for returns are good sources to draw on. With regard to desks, the unanswered question may be about monitor clearance, assembly, or whether an oak finish indicates that it is made of solid wood.

State the answer clearly, including only the relevant conditions. It is more useful to give measurements, care instructions, and details from actual product tests than to say that a product is “ideal for modern living”. Describe only the tests which the company has actually carried out.

One substantial guide can address related questions without creating a thin page for every variation. Link readers to the relevant products when they are ready to choose.

The importance of technical access remains. Google’s AI optimization guidance sticks to the basic principles of SEO: pages have to be indexable and eligible for snippets, and the site must be included in the Search generative AI features. Even if the guidance is followed, this does not ensure that the page will be displayed. Google also states that there is no need for a special AI schema or an llms.txt file.

AI shopping needs accurate product and offer information

You should use the particular version that the customer can buy when preparing the details, since a description of the parent product might not include the size, finish, or combination of accessories that the shopper wants.

For a representative product, review:

Provide the stable SKU and the manufacturer identifiers that apply, such as the GTIN or the MPN. Do not make up any missing identifiers.

Features which influence suitability, for example dimensions, material, compatibility and the parts included.

The image and landing page of the chosen variant.

The cost, the currency, the availability, together with the applicable shipping and return terms.

If you look at the details on the storefront, in the product feed, in the structured data, and on the checkout page, the feed export might still be regarded as having been completed successfully even if some of the individual records still need looking at at the destination.

Have a person assigned to look into what occurs after an employee has been promoted or when stock runs out. It’s possible that the page has been updated but an older offer still remains in another system. The product and offer markup should properly describe the relevant product page and any errors in the source data should also be corrected in that system.

Before spending any money on further integration, it is necessary to look at the catalogue connections that the platform has already set up. OpenAI says that the integration of Shopify product data is carried out via Shopify Catalog and refers to a direct-feed application method. None of these methods guarantees that recommendations will be issued, and the fact that discovery is supported doesn’t mean that products can be checked out.

How do you measure the two strategies?

Measure exposure separately from purchase outcomes.

Search Console’s generative AI performance report shows impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google reports worldwide rollout as of August 31, 2026, although a site with insufficient impressions may not see the report. It describes exposure on Google, not every AI platform.

The performance insights provided by Merchant Center AI spertain to conversational shopping queries and consist of share of voice and products showing; currently, the coverage applies only to organic, English-language activity for accounts in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the United States.

One has to be careful about the percentages since Google states that an account with no competitors specified can have 100% share of voice. The existence of this situation does not mean that the company has achieved market dominance.

Alongside these reports, make a note of any unresolved product errors and offer mismatches. Examine referral visits and orders using the attribution data available to the business. Each of a brand mention, a product appearance, and an attributed sale answers a different question; when they are all combined into a single success metric the issues that need to be dealt with are masked.

Start with one category

Select a category that has commercial importance and contains some difficult products, for example, those with multiple variants or with frequently changing inventory, and note the existing problems before implementing any changes.

Begin by addressing the wrong offers and then improve the explanations that customers need in order to choose between the products. The ecommerce lead should keep a single common backlog, each of the content, operations, and development teams being in charge of the tasks that they are actually capable of resolving.

Check whether the corrections have reached their destination before assessing any changes in visibility. Although a four-week pilot can carry out this task, it cannot guarantee a result within four weeks.

How Alacrity can support the work

Alacrity E-Commerce Solutions offers a range of services including ecommerce development, digital marketing and SEO, website design, and content solutions—skills that are pertinent when assessing the website and marketing work in question.

Start the first exchange by mentioning a product category, explain the present feed layout, and provide a list of the questions that customers often ask. The level of technical integration should then be evaluated separately, after which you can determine the method to be used for verifying the changes that have been made.

Conclusion

The value of comparing AI search vs AI shopping is knowing which problem to fix. There are instances when customers require a more detailed explanation and there are cases when the product information is inaccurate. Having a shared review of the purchasing experience allows the team to focus its efforts on the appropriate areas.

FAQ‘s

Is AI shopping part of AI search?

It is very usual for a discussion to continue from the identification of a category to the comparison of products and the assessment of sellers; this difference enables the teams to determine the kind of information required at each stage.

Can blog content replace product feed optimization?

While a guide may describe a product, it cannot correct outdated stock data or a link to the wrong variant; instead, content and catalog maintenance handle different problems.

Does submitting a feed guarantee product recommendations?

No. Submission supplies data through a supported route. Platform selection and the shopper’s requirements still determine whether a product appears.

Do ecommerce brands need special AI schema?

Google doesn’t require the use of any particular schema for generative search; you just need to make sure that the appropriate structured data, for example Product and Offer, is used on the relevant pages, without considering it as a guarantee that it will be displayed.

Which work should a small team prioritize?

Fix errors that prevent an accurate purchase first. Then answer the questions customers need resolved before buying. Expand beyond the pilot category once the maintenance process is manageable.

ChatGPT ads in India are now a real planning consideration for marketers. OpenAI currently lists India as available for self-service Ads Manager access, so an eligible advertiser whose legal entity is based in India can sign up directly and manage campaigns through Ads Manager Beta.

That does not mean ChatGPT should take the place of Google Ads, Meta Ads or other known advertising methods. The platform is still in beta, and its available space, how it sends messages, the ways it presents content, how it tracks results, and the tools used to purchase ads are all still changing. The best way to handle this is to learn how this method functions, pick a situation to try it out with and see if it meets important business targets.

Understand What “Available in India” Means

OpenAI’s current advertiser availability page lists India as available for self-service access. The legal entity that will advertise and be billed must be based in a supported country.

That is different from saying every ChatGPT user in India will see ads. OpenAI says that advertisements may be shown to users who have the Free and Go plans, whereas those with Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans will not see any ads. Additionally, accounts that have been identified as belonging to individuals under the age of 18 are also excluded.

For media planners it is important to note this difference. Although advertiser access is available, the available inventory still depends on the user experience, the type of plan, eligibility, and the rollout conditions.

Know How ChatGPT Ads Differ From Search Ads

ChatGPT Ads are built around conversational context rather than a traditional keyword auction alone. OpenAI says delivery can consider the context and intent of the current conversation, the advertiser’s landing page, ad title and copy, advertiser-provided context hints, and, when ad personalization is enabled, selected signals from the user’s broader ChatGPT experience.

Context hints let advertisers describe the conversations, topics, or situations in which an offer may be relevant. OpenAI says these hints guide matching, but they are not exact-match keywords and do not guarantee delivery in a specific conversation.

For marketers used to paid search, this calls for a different planning mindset. Campaigns can be organized around customer situations, problems, decision stages, and use cases rather than long keyword lists alone.

Choose the Objective and Structure Around the Business Goal

Ads Manager Beta currently supports Views, Clicks, and Conversions objectives. Views is designed for impression-based reach, Clicks for website traffic, and Conversions for supported downstream actions.

The objective should match the question the campaign is meant to answer. A retailer testing whether conversational discovery can send qualified visitors to a product category may start with Clicks. A business which has reliable conversion tracking is in a better position to test a conversion-oriented campaign.

Campaigns follow a well-known hierarchy which consists of a campaign, an ad group, and an ad. The campaign determines the general objective, the budget, the dates, and the targeting. Ad groups are used to group together themes or areas of intent and may include contextual hints. The ads include the title, the copy, the image, the landing page, and the brand information.

Build Ads Around Customer Situations

The conversational setting makes specificity important. Someone using ChatGPT may be comparing approaches, solving a problem, researching a purchase, or narrowing a shortlist. A generic line such as “Grow your business” gives both the system and the user little useful information.

A B2B software company, for example, could separate ad groups for inventory reconciliation, multi-location reporting, and order management. An ecommerce business could separate genuine use cases, product categories, or purchase occasions when those distinctions match the offer.

The landing page should continue the same idea. If the ad addresses one use case, the destination page should make that use case easy to verify instead of forcing the visitor to search through a generic homepage.

Measure Business Quality, Not Just Platform Metrics

Ads Manager Beta provides core campaign reporting. OpenAI’s current documentation includes impressions, clicks, click-through rate, and spend reporting, with conversion measurement available for supported setups. Its beta documentation also notes that some metrics can refresh at different speeds, with spend data potentially updating later than impressions or clicks.

First-party measurement therefore matters. Before launch, confirm that UTMs, analytics events, forms, ecommerce events, and CRM source fields are working.

Platform reporting can show what happened around the ad. Your own analytics should answer the more important questions: Did the traffic engage? Did the lead fit the business? Did the sale produce acceptable margin? Did the channel add value beyond existing campaigns?

A strong click-through rate can be useful, but it is not a complete business result.

Understand the Privacy Boundary

Advertising inside a conversational product raises obvious privacy questions. OpenAI states that advertisers do not receive users’ ChatGPT conversations, chat history, memories, or personal details. Ads are shown separately from the assistant’s answer, and reporting is designed around advertising performance rather than access to private chats.

For businesses, measurement should rely on approved advertising and analytics practices. Advertisers should not expect prompt transcripts or private conversation data to become a targeting or reporting feed.

The same discipline should continue after the click. Marketing teams remain responsible for appropriate tracking, accurate claims, consent practices, and how customer data is handled on their own websites and systems.

Plan for Indian Market Differences

India is too varied for one national assumption to work across every campaign. Geography, serviceability, pricing, delivery timelines, language, and customer expectations can all affect the value of a click or conversion.

A SaaS company that sells nationally might feel at ease with its wide reach. A local service business, on the other hand, will probably need stricter geographic restrictions. An e-commerce brand should make sure that the product advertised is actually deliverable to the market it is aimed at and that the landing page clearly explains matters concerning pricing, shipping and availability.

B2B advertisers should also look beyond lead count. Industry fit, company size, purchasing authority, and sales readiness may matter more than raw form volume. If a campaign generates many inquiries but few qualified opportunities, that should influence the next budget decision.

Run a Controlled Test Before Scaling

It is easier to evaluate a new channel when the test has a clear aim. Start by concentrating on one offer, one customer problem, and one objective that can be measured. Use a landing page that already explains the offer well, then create a small number of clearly differentiated ad groups around relevant customer situations.

During the test, review:

delivery and spend;

click quality and landing-page engagement;

conversion tracking;

lead or order quality;

sales feedback for B2B campaigns;

revenue, margin, or cost per qualified outcome where available.

Keep a record of changes to creative, context hints, budgets, landing pages, and conversion setup. Because Ads Manager is still in beta, this history can help separate platform changes from campaign changes.

Then compare ChatGPT Ads with existing paid media. Search ads target explicit search demand, social ads function within the feed and content environments, and ChatGPT Ads can show up when people are carrying out conversational research or making a decision. The channel must earn its position within the media mix by means of its performance at the downstream level, not because of its novelty.

How Alacrity Can Support a ChatGPT Ads Test

Alacrity E-Commerce Solutions provides a range of services, including digital marketing and SEO, ecommerce development, website design, social media marketing, integrations, customer experience, and data-related solutions. The fact that these services are available is important since the ChatGPT Ads test is not confined to the ad account alone; performance can be influenced by the campaign structure, the clarity of the landing page, tracking, ecommerce operations, and the website experience following a click.

A practical level of involvement might involve campaign planning, providing creative direction, reviewing the landing pages, setting up tracking, producing reports, and comparing the new paid channel with existing ones. Alacrity also issues guidance on the different roles of PPC and organic traffic, which can assist businesses in incorporating a new paid channel into a wider acquisition strategy.

The client retains control over the commercial decisions, the budget, the claims, the choices relating to customer data, and the final approvals. The results are due to the offer, the audience, the method of carrying out the campaign, the measurements, and the market conditions.

Conclusion

ChatGPT advertisements in India are now good enough for businesses to try out, but the channel should still be regarded as one that is constantly developing. A reasonable first step is to focus on a specific use case, include clear measurement, use appropriate creative content, and have a landing page that fits the customer’s situation. Companies need not decide between using ChatGPT Ads and all the other available channels. What they should do is decide if conversational advertising provides them with qualified exposure or useful additional demand at a cost that is reasonable.

FAQ‘s

Are ChatGPT Ads available to advertisers in India?

Yes. OpenAI currently lists India as available for self-service Ads Manager access. The legal entity that will advertise and be billed must be based in a supported country, and account setup, verification, billing, and policy requirements still apply.

Do ChatGPT Ads use keywords like Google Ads?

Not in the same way. Advertisers can provide context hints describing relevant conversations, topics, or situations, but OpenAI says those hints are not exact-match keywords and do not guarantee delivery in specific conversations.

Which campaign objectives are available?

In Ads Manager Beta OpenAI provides the option of setting Views, Clicks, and Conversions as objectives and the appropriate choice will be based on whether the campaign is aiming at increasing its visibility, at generating website traffic, or at optimizing with respect to a supported conversion action.

Can advertisers see what users said in their ChatGPT conversations?

No. OpenAI states that advertisers do not receive users’ chats, chat history, memories, or personal details. Advertisers should use approved website analytics, conversion tracking, and CRM processes to measure post-click outcomes.

Should a business move budget from Google or Meta to ChatGPT Ads?

Not automatically. A controlled test gives better results than an immediate shift in budget. Look at outcomes, revenue contribution and how well customers fit with the offering. Compare all that to what you have with existing channels. Then decide if ChatGPT Ads should get more of the budget.

Even though Google Ads is becoming more automated, advertisers are not therefore becoming less important; the main Google Ads trends in 2026 show a different way of working, since Google will take on a greater responsibility for targeting, bidding, creative variation, and campaign expansion, while advertisers will need to set more definite goals, provide better data, supply the assets and landing pages, and define their business constraints.

Account management takes on a different character for companies which provide services to other businesses and those that are involved in e-commerce. Even though manual controls remain important, performance is now in large part dependent on the quality of conversion, on the achievement of commercial targets, on creative initiatives, and on the way in which automated systems are supervised.

AI Max Is Becoming a Core Part of Search Campaign Management

AI Max is one of the most important Search changes in 2026. Google describes it as an optimization layer for Search campaigns that can expand query matching, customize ad text, and use final URL expansion to select relevant landing pages. Advertisers can also use controls for brands, locations, URLs, and other campaign requirements. Google’s AI Max documentation explains the feature set.

The transition is already affecting legacy Search settings. Google confirmed that campaigns using automatically created assets and campaign-level broad match began auto-upgrading to AI Max in September 2026. The Dynamic Search Ads timeline was extended, with DSA auto-upgrades and sunset activity now scheduled to begin in February 2027. Google’s DSA-to-AI-Max update sets out the revised timeline.

Advertisers should use the extra time to test deliberately. Review search term matching, text customization, final URL expansion, exclusions, brand controls, and location controls before automation becomes the default path for more campaigns.

Search Strategy Is Moving Beyond Exact Keyword Matching

Now that search queries are getting longer and more diverse, it is more important to consider the user’s intent than merely to match a phrase.

An advertiser has the possibility of coming across a customer who is researching a problem, comparing different approaches, narrowing down their options, or posing a detailed question. In that environment, the account needs more than a strong keyword list. Ads, landing pages, product information, service pages, and conversion tracking all need to explain clearly what the business offers and who it is for.

Search term reviews still matter. Teams can look for patterns such as comparison language, urgency, location, use cases, price sensitivity, or business type. Those patterns can improve ad messaging, landing pages, exclusions, and sales follow-up.

Automation can widen reach. It cannot decide whether every new query is commercially useful.

Display Campaigns Are Moving Into Demand Gen

Google is bringing Display into Demand Gen. The migration tool began rolling out in June 2026, allowing eligible advertisers to move existing Google Display Ads campaigns into Demand Gen while carrying over settings and some performance history. Google says that, later, new standalone Display campaigns will be created within Demand Gen and remaining eligible campaigns will be migrated. Google’s migration guidance provides the current details.

Demand Gen can combine Google Display Network inventory with visual surfaces such as YouTube, Discover, Gmail, and Maps, depending on availability and campaign settings.

Advertisers should not assume a migrated campaign will behave exactly like the original. Google points out that it is possible to experience short-term fluctuations in performance following a migration, and the way the budget is handled on the day of the migration may differ from its usual daily rate.

Before you migrate the campaigns, you should record the budgets, the audiences, the exclusions, the creative materials, and the performance baselines. After the migration has been carried out, you should check the delivery, the quality of the audience, the quality of the conversions, and the amount spent before making any major changes to the budget.

Target CPA and Target ROAS Need to Reflect Real Business Economics

Google changed target-based bidding behavior globally in August 2026 for campaigns that are limited by budget. The update is designed to make those campaigns deliver more consistently toward the targets advertisers set, including when budgets change. Google’s bidding update applies to strategies including Target CPA and Target ROAS.

That makes the target itself more important. If a campaign has historically achieved a CPA well below its stated target, the system may now move closer to the target that is actually configured. Google does not automatically rewrite the target to match recent performance.

For lead generation, a low cost per form submission is not necessarily valuable if most leads are unqualified. For e-commerce, revenue by itself does not indicate the impact of margin, discounts, returns, or the range of products.

A bidding target must be based on what the business actually affords or what it really needs to achieve, not just a figure that was entered many months ago and has never since been looked at.

Measurement Quality Is Becoming a Bigger Competitive Factor

Automated bidding can only work with the signals it receives. If a Google Ads account treats every action as equally valuable, the system may optimize toward activity that looks good in the interface but has limited business value.

A practical conversion review should separate primary outcomes from secondary signals. Actions with business value such as purchases, qualified leads, booked appointments, or other significant business actions should have a different role from page views, button clicks, or low-intent form submissions.

For businesses that are focused on generating leads, linking advertising data to the stages in a CRM system or to offline results can demonstrate whether the paid leads end up becoming qualified opportunities or customers. Ecommerce advertisers can make better decisions by verifying that the revenue they have reported does in fact represent real commercial value.

The goal is not to collect more data for its own sake. It is to give the bidding system cleaner information and give the business a better basis for budget decisions.

AI-Assisted Creative Can Speed Up Production, but Review Still Matters

Google is expanding AI-assisted asset creation. In May 2026, Google announced new Asset Studio capabilities designed to generate and refine creative using information such as a marketing brief, brand guidelines, website content, and campaign goals. Google’s Asset Studio update also outlined broader image and video workflows.

This can make it easier to produce more variations for testing.

The need for approval is not eliminated by faster production; the assets which have been generated still have to be checked with regard to product accuracy, pricing, claims, branding, legal requirements, localization, and consistency with the landing page.

A sensible workflow separates creation from approval. AI can help generate options. A person still needs to decide which options are accurate and appropriate.

Account Management Should Focus More on Inputs and Guardrails

The Google Ads trends 2026 do not remove the need for active management. They change where management effort is most useful.

A practical weekly review can include:

search terms and emerging intent patterns

conversion quality, not only conversion volume

bidding targets and budget limitations

final URL selection and landing-page relevance

asset performance and message consistency

audience and geographic quality

CRM, sales, margin, or return data where available

The common thread is control over inputs. Google can automate more of the auction, but it does not know a company’s margins, sales capacity, service boundaries, brand rules, or lead-quality standards unless those constraints are reflected in the account and its data.

Businesses should also document major settings and changes. When performance moves, a change log makes it easier to separate platform effects from seasonality, budget changes, website updates, or internal sales issues.

Multi-Market Advertisers Need to Track Rollouts Carefully

Advertisers operating across countries should not assume that every feature appears at the same time in every account. Availability can depend on language, account eligibility, campaign type, beta access, and rollout stage.

Keep a market-by-market record of major feature availability, migrations, conversion setup, brand controls, and account changes. This makes regional performance comparisons more useful.

How Alacrity Can Support Google Ads Management in 2026

Google Ads performance is often affected by factors outside the campaign interface. Landing-page quality, ecommerce structure, website performance, tracking, creative, and the handoff between marketing and sales can all influence results.

Alacrity E-Commerce Solutions lists digital marketing and SEO services including PPC and CPA, alongside ecommerce development, social media marketing, and website design. That wider scope can be useful when a paid media review identifies problems across advertising, website experience, or ecommerce operations.

Alacrity’s Google Ads budget planning guide also emphasizes linking budget decisions to goals, lead or customer value, competition, tracking, and the business’s ability to convert paid traffic.

External support can help teams review campaign structure, measurement, landing pages, and execution. The business should still retain responsibility for budgets, commercial targets, compliance, and final investment decisions.

Conclusion

Google Ads is aiming at a greater level of automation in the areas of Search, Display, bidding, creative, and measurement. AI Max is becoming more central to Search campaigns, Display campaigns are being shifted into Demand Gen, and the bidding update in August 2026 makes it more important to set accurate targets for campaigns that have limited budgets.

A practical course of action is to automate the aspects where the platform has an advantage while at the same time improving the inputs on which the automation depends—such as conversion data, targets, creative, landing pages, exclusions, and business rules. For any business looking at its paid media in 2026, the best starting point is to carry out a structured account audit which links the campaign settings with the real commercial results.

FAQ‘s

What is the biggest Google Ads change in 2026?

One of the most significant changes is the wider role of AI Max in Search campaigns. It brings AI-assisted search term matching, text customization, and final URL expansion into the Search workflow while also giving advertisers controls that need careful review.

Is AI Max replacing normal Search campaigns?

No. AI Max is an optimization layer within Search campaigns rather than a separate replacement campaign type. Advertisers can enable and configure its features within their Search setup.

Are Dynamic Search Ads ending in 2026?

Not yet. Google extended the transition. DSA auto-upgrades and sunset activity are scheduled to begin in February 2027, while automatically created assets and campaign-level broad match settings began transitioning to AI Max in September 2026.

What is happening to Google Display campaigns?

Google is moving Display campaigns into Demand Gen. The migration tool began rolling out in June 2026, and Google says additional migration stages will follow later. Advertisers should review settings and performance after migration rather than assuming delivery will remain identical.

What should advertisers review before increasing budgets?

Check the conversion tracking, the quality of the leads or sales, the Target CPA or Target ROAS settings, the relevance of the landing page, the quality of the audience, and the business economics. Increasing the ad spend is more effective when the account is being optimized for outcomes that the business actually values.
